The Talisman Series of paintings is inspired by Talisman NO. 1, which was completed in 1978. Years later, the rest of the Talisman Series was started in 1993.
Talisman is defined as a magical object or fetish such as a rabbit's foot, a magic ring, or any other object that brings good fortune or protection to the bearer. In Jungian psychology, a talisman is a key symbol in a dream or myth that carries considerable psychological meaning. Examples of symbolic talismans are: Cinderella's glass slipper, King Arthur's sword, or Aaron's rod. In this series, Talisman refers to the central abstract figure found in each image.
